Patrick Vieira A City Player?, To Gamble Or Not To Gamble

As far as I am concerned Patrick Vieira is a Manchester City player, call me premature but I like to sometimes live on the edge of 'got it wrong canyon'.

It seems however that signals and fact add up to say Vieira is a City player?

With Vieira waving goodbye to Inter fans and Jose Mourinho stating Vieira is on his way back to England.

Ex Arsenal man Lee Dixon seems to think Patrick Vieira does not have what it takes anymore to play in todays English Premier League.

Nigel Winterburn also sees the move as a gamble.

How much of a gamble is it?

Patrick Vieira will be arriving at Manchester City as a free agent so there is no transfer fee to be paid.

Dietmar Hamann proved to the English Premier League that its not over until a player says its over, so whats to say Patrick Vieira cannot play an important role at a new club no matter what league their in?

Considering Manchester City has its fair share of injuries highlighting the fact Stephen Ireland and Michael Johnson are out injured, who says City don't need midfield reinforcements.

The January transfer window is a tough and harsh window to deal in, as you are aware many clubs do not want to loose players halfway through a season, others will demand a very high price.

So whats better than a still fit, experienced footballer with pedigree at the highest standard on a free transfer?

Manchester City will gain the last few years service of a champion and as far as I can see, the only person having to open their wallet at this point to pay his wage is our owner and saviour Sheikh Mansour.

With Patricks experience, many of our young players will gain a valuable asset to learn from and whats to say City don't offer Vieira some kind of staff role once he chooses to retire?

One thing is for certain, the player has a hell of a lot more to offer than just on the playing field, hey I am only 1 year older than the guy and I can run a full marathon still.

To me theres no gamble here, its a clear win win situation even if he fails to make a big impact.

Welcome Mr Patrick Vieira to Manchester City FC, heres to hoping it works out for you and us too.

Must have been the Italian mafia :D

seriously he seemed ok in his last match for Inter and this is exactly why players have to have medicals.

You would have been a tiny bit more convincing if you chose to say, "the player is past it", though im not convinced that would have swayed me either.

He's still a good player and he will be just as good as de Jong but wont cost as much.
