You would think a very high and hard fall from the heights of the Premier League and Champions League would humble a club and its fans, but that would be far from reality and Leeds United are a prime example.
After Leeds United's disappearance into the financial black hole that threatened to swallow Liverpool this season and threatens to swallow Man United still, you would think Leeds fans would be well accustomed to understanding what humble pie is not to mention knowing the definition of the word 'humble'.
Their fans still class themselves one of the best clubs in the world despite an extreme lack of success, an act which I am only accustomed to witnessing with Man United and Liverpool fans.
Reasoning and reality I guess are not welcome in the minds of Leeds and Trafford Fans.
One particular Leeds fan who goes by the name of Darren Witcoop has a infatuation with Carlos Tevez, apparently Leeds United's Argentine striker Luciano Becchio is a better striker than Argentine international Carlos Tevez.
I think Leeds beating this seasons wobbly Man United earlier this year has woken up the Leeds of old.
With that over its time for us City fans to step back, focus and evaluate where we are now.
Now that all the opposed hysteria thrown at City is slowly dying down, our players and club are reassuring us which is something we were not really accustomed too but is very much welcomed.
It is good to know Carlos Tevez is happy at City and equally good to know the retirement plan was also a future thought, I understood he Carlos meant possibly in 4 or 5 years plus but the rubbish flying around in the media were still getting a little tiresome.
Other issues that needed clearing up were Carlos's confrontation with Roberto Mancini and the Balotelli slash Boateng bust up, thanks to Patrick Vieira and James Milner they were both put into perspective.
These things happen at big clubs with big players and high expectations, how many times did you see Man United's players coming off disappointed or players upset in training. United have banned the media from their training ground on more than one occasion and now the media do not publish anything without first seeking permission from old bacon face himself.
Forth in the league with no injury problems and Magic Michael Johnson on his way back to full fitness, Mancini has settled our players in and we are finally starting to look like a team.
Qualified for the last 32 of the Eufa Europa League with one game left against Juventus, which is more of a glamour game for City but more of a pride gaining game for Juventus.
Only one issue that still lingers and that be Ian Wright who continues to air his moronic opinion like a child with a vengeance vendetta, crying due to City blacklisting him and not allowing City players to appear on his little show.
Despite Carlos stating he has no issue with Mancini and fully respects his manager, Ian still thinks he knows better and is more qualified than Mancini and thinks Carlos should be treated better?
Other than that everything is peachy and our youth setup is continuing to thrive with John Guidetti flourishing on his loan move, at least one more year before he is ready for Premier League but alongside Alex Nimely we will have enough strikers for the future after we rid ourselves off a few senior strikers and replace them with better.
At least Becchio wants to play for the club he's at.
ReplyDeleteLet's not pretend Man City are successful for any other reason than having a wwealthy owner. Other fans respect you about as much as you respected the kid at school with a brand new car because he had a rich Dad.
As a Leeds fan, I hate Man Utd. But hate alsways comes with a sense of respect. You look at the club and admire their traditions, their patience with players and managers alike - ultimately , their class.
I have absolutely no respect for Manchester's 2nd club. Hard to take seriously, making a mockery out of the last sensibilities of the game, soulless, and ultimately doomed to a spectacular fall from grace once the Arabs get bored. You are the club of toyboys, all the gear and no idea, the Katie Price of football - absolutely loaded without a sniff of class.
I think you'll find it was seasons Man Utd that Leeds beat. Leeds fans are nothing like those of Man Utd.We're all well aware of our brush with extinction, so allow us a bit of tongue in cheek banter mate. It's a fact that we're not famous anymore,so i'll take it it as a compliment that all you fantasy island clubs still consider us worth writing about. We beat Man Utd fair & square with a good solid team performance, & you implying otherwise sounds a bit like jealousy to me. There's one big problem with having all the money in the world, & that's that you immediately lose the respect of supporters of real clubs. Chelsea,Man Utd & Man City, the most obscene clubs in British football.
ReplyDeleteOh my God Citeh, that's hysterical.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, we last won a trophy in 1992. When did you last pick up any silverware?
And secondly, the Becchio/Teves chant is a piss-take. No one actually believes Becchio is the better player - it's just a song!
Seriously, I always liked City due to a mutual loathing of Manchester United but if money has put you this far up your own arse, my mind could quickly be changed!
not actually sure what the point of mentioning leeds was in this article... not actually sure of the article to be fair!
ReplyDeleteI presume you are referring to this: http://www.fanhouse.co.uk/2010/12/07/luciano-becchio-giving-carlos-tevez-a-run-for-his-money-as-leeds/
ReplyDeleteIf you read it, no one actually says Beccio is as good as, or better than, Tevez. It simply says that "Becchio has every right to look forward to meeting his fellow countryman on level terms in the Premier League next season."
A fair comment if Leeds manage promotion.
I presume you must be a bit embarrassed now.
Hate to play devil's advocate but Salford and Weeds have both tasted a lot more success than we have.
ReplyDeleteYou need to get your tin hat on mate.
Bit of a pointless dig at Leeds wasn't it? If one Leeds fan thinks Becchio is a better striker than Tevez then let him think that. Everyone knows that Carlos is one of the best in the world right now.
ReplyDeleteIt seems ive had a few to many bites on my hook and have run out of bait.
ReplyDeleteI did not say Leeds were a small club, I did not say City were a bigger club. I just merely pointed out that ok a small group of Leeds fans don't count for the majority but still, there are many who still carry that superiority that is more accustomed to say Man United fans these days, or Arsenal fans even with their unbroken records etc.
Get a grip as not everything you read will please you, it was more the previous article written about Becchio/Tevez than the current so you may want to look it up.
If they gain promotion then then well done to them and I do wish them the best of luck in getting it, but even Leeds fans have to admit it is a little soon to be screaming and shouting aye.
For the record City fans still have their feet on the ground despite all that has changed at City and we have been through enough to understand being humble in every way.
Not sure you'll hear many Leeds fans shouting that we are about to be promoted. Not after last season any way!
ReplyDeletewere ye not in the third tier not so long ago.....
ReplyDeleteLeeds are to date a more succesful club than city with a bigger fanbase worldwide, deal with it!!!
'extreme lack of success'??? Leeds United have enjoyed more success than Manchester City in pretty much any time frame you care to examine. We've certainly had some severe lows in the last 25 years but no lower than yourselves and yet we can still point to a League Championship in the not too distant past and countless more trophies prior to that.
ReplyDeleteYou'll never be a bigger club than Leeds United
BITE!
ReplyDeleteCITY 0 LEEDS 1
"For the record City fans still have their feet on the ground despite all that has changed at City and we have been through enough to understand being humble in every way"
ReplyDeleteI suspect that many of your fans barely remember the Kippax, and Division 3, and David White, Paul Lake and Co.
I suspect that many, older, fans, utterly loathe what you have become. It's hard to admit it, sure, but what you have at 'Eastlands' is Manchester City PLC. A corporate identity with no soul.
From a club that many people had a soft spot for to Chelsea 'lite'.
And if you don't realise that's how your perceived by other fans then you need to open your curtains and look outside once in a while.
Blimey. What's reattled your cage about us? Always had a respect for City fans after the brilliant support you showed your team when you were down the leagues (that plus a mutual hatred of the trafford red sox). This kind of post makes me wonder if all this money is going to your heads. you can buy success but you can't buy loyalty and if you keep up this kind of attitude - let's talk about humble - you'll be no better than the chel$ki fans who started turning up as soon as abramovich arrived. any road, despite this somewhat surprising dig at us, i hope you do ok this season and we'll be playing you soon.
ReplyDeleteIf these comments don't prove my point then what will.
ReplyDeleteLeeds fans playing the we are bigger than you card lmao, we get enough of that from United fans to just blow it off as meaningless opinions.
I remember Paul Lake, David White, Keith Curle, Georgi Kinkladze, Ian Brightwell, Mike Sheron.
Sure there will be fans who were not old enough to remember the Kippax and Division 3 just like every other club will have fans who have experienced less but I have and my children will live that through me.
Like I said this is a clear case of Leeds fans not liking the truth, all i did was pull the curtains open to reveal your true feelings and opinions.
Wolves dressed as Sheep
ReplyDeleteNice to know that Citeh still dislike us. Always heard from a few LUFC supporting mates that you have a real hatred for the real United, it would appear so. :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck becoming the first team in the dump that is Manchester (although I guess you already are - the scum are based in Salford)
Manchester City will start to win things. But they will have bought the trophies and that should leave a bitter taste in the mouth. It's not Football is it?
ReplyDeleteRather be Leeds.
Ian Wright Wright Wright.
ReplyDeletehow is tevez happy at city btw.
ReplyDeletefrom what i seen the other night he was raging.

ReplyDeleteWolves dressed as Sheep
What does Mick McCarthey have to do with anything?!
lol, some of the comments I am getting are hilarious, keep them coming though not all will be published due to some of them being deemed extreme.
ReplyDeleteAs for hating Leeds well, I have to admit I have never hated Leeds, pity would be a better word or disgust even but never hatred.
Manchester City are the most indebted football club on the planet. Their massive debt is cancelled out every year by their owner. When their owner gets bored and decides to sell up City will be unable to pay the debts and could face going out of business. If that happens few people will be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteYou know what narks me CiTyBlUe? You write a load of drivel, then change your tak wen a few Leeds fans have a go.
ReplyDeleteLive the dream pal, it might last long enough for you to appreciate i.e at least until the arabs are bored - by the way, thats when Ridsdale will come to your rescue!!
Get real, your club has no recent success and anything from now on is just plastic. Your article suggests you've lost sight of reality.
MOTG
Lost sight of reality you say?, then my eyes must to lying for all I see is our club owned by very wise owner who is building for the longhaul.
ReplyDeleteFreely admitting that we have a lack of success which is why we are fighting for it as we speak, also wanting to never lose sight of our past history because it makes us 'City' who we are.
But ultimately keeping our feet on the ground knowing success is not achieved in minutes like Rome was not built in a day and that clubs like Leeds take a big fall for being ill run, pity United are not falling as fast.
Then again what would you know or understand about reality, if the drop did not teach you then what would?
As for the comments about we will only win because we bought it wih money, every club of the planet is and has been spending to achieve and Leeds are no different which makes you hypocrites.
CiTyBlUe, can't you see you're fighting a losing battle here? Where's all the other City fans supporting your views? In my opinion, a poorly thought-out blog and argument, I wont list all that's wrong with it as it's all listed in various comments above. Would you not just take the hit here and admit you got this one wrong, and then we can all go back to hating the Scum? What do you say? MOT
ReplyDeleteCityBlue
ReplyDeleteI find a lot of the postings by the Leeds fans on here pretty peurile at best and verging on desperation at worst but as other City fans have said to a great extent you have brought it on yourself for no great reason.
Ok so some Leeds fan thinks this or that. Thats hardly sufficient to tar them all with the same brush and compare their arrogance with that of United fans who would have been gone years ago had the same things happened to them as with Leeds. As for calling Liverpool fans arrogant I dont feel that is a fair comparison. For me ManU fans represent the epitome of arrogance, ignorance and glory hunting. Pointless dragging other clubs into the equation.
For the Leeds fans who have had a pop at our owners they really want to take a long hard look at their owner. Master Bates. The implication that Leeds managed their success without spending a penny or cheating is laughable. We all know they sacked the best manger they ever had because they were unable to live with the massive egoes of the Revie dinosaurs.
seriously mate, you are doing absolutely nothing for the half decent mutual respect shown by both our clubs.
ReplyDeletei have absolutely no ill feeling toward the blue half of manchester and i think i can say that about the majority of whites.
it would be easier to stomach an attack on my club if you actually had a real reason instead of this rubbish.
the lack of support shown by the city fans for you also speaks volumes.
good luck this season, city.
Firstly this is not a battle so if certain internet warriors want it they are looking in the wrong place.
ReplyDeleteSecondly I don't require fellow City fans to come to my aid, not that I need any aid anyway.
I am very thankful all City fans do not all think the same way or have the same views 100% of the time, you may think this article is an all out attack on Leeds but the truth is it was just a quick laugh at the way you Leeds fans think comparing you to Man Uniteds fans.
Make out you have a mutual respect with us but under the shroud you look down your noses at us.
Good luck with your season back at you.
