Manchester City FC has commissioned a major documentary about the Club during the 2009/2010 season focussing on both the team and a group of long-time supporters.
The Producers want to hear from fans who have experienced the ups and downs of following the Club over the last 30 years.
They want to talk to fans who remember any of the following:
1976 – League Cup Final - MCFC v Newcastle.
1981 – FA Cup runners up - MCFC v Spurs.
1998 – Relegation to the third tier - Stoke v MCFC.
1999 – The legendary Gillingham match which secured promotion.
It might be that you weren’t at the game itself but remember it for another reason – maybe it was the day you married/became engaged. Or perhaps you just watched the game in the pub ?
If you have fantastic stories about any other City matches, the Producers would also like to hear about those, too.
The best stories will be filmed as part of the documentary. These will then be combined with footage of the match and maybe comments of the players involved, so your story is preserved forever.
Please email us with your memories asap, ideally by the end of January, to

I was on a family holiday in Bournemouth during August 1988 (I think). On our last day we had planned to leave in the afternoon to drive up to Stranraer to catch our early Sunday morning ferry back to Northern Ireland. I managed to persuade my dad to leave Bournemouth early on the Saturday morning and drive direct to Manchester to see City play Plymouth Argyle (in the old 2nd division) at Maine Road. These were the days before Sat Nav and internet, all we had was a Road Atlas and we had no idea where in Manchester the ground was. After countless traffic jams, diversions and stopping at the side of the road to ask for directions, we arrived at Maine Road at 15.10. That in itself was quite a feet as my dad drove a 10 year old, beat up, gold Vauxhall Viva with a tan vinyl roof. Amazingly we got a parking spot right outside. My dad and I left my mum in the car and we ran as fast as we could and managed to get a turnstile that was still open at the Kippax terracing. At the age of 16 and with my years of dreaming about Man City, this was the most amazing experience, even though I could not see much of the game as I was smaller than everyone. City won 2 -1 (I think). The only problem was that with all the rushing before hand I forgot to lift my camera to record the magical moment. At the end of the game I was elated with the win, and the fact I had made it to Maine Rd, but I remember failing slightly disappointed I didn’t get any photos. We got back to car and my mum could not get a word in because of my excitement.
ReplyDeleteThen the real story unfolded. When we ran to get into the ground, a steward approached the car and informed my mum that the Gold Vauxhall Viva was parked in Peter Swales’ parking space. As my mum could not drive she could not move the car, so she offered the steward a fresh strawberry from a basket she had bought in Bournemouth that morning. After chatting to the steward for a bit she explained to him how I had forgotten my camera. He let her in to the Main Stand and she took photos that were practically pitch side. Imagine how delighted I was when those photos were developed. I still have them to this day. CTID.
